About Kazuhito

Kazuhito Ohashi is a Professor in the Faculty of Environmental, Life, Natural Science and Technology at Okayama University, affiliated with the School of Engineering, Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, and Department of Mechanical and Systems Engineering, where he leads the Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory. He obtained his Doctor of Engineering from Osaka University and Master of Engineering from Okayama University. His graduate studies were in Mechanical Engineering at Okayama University from March 1987 to March 1989, following his Bachelor of Engineering in Applied Mechanical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at Okayama University between April 1983 and March 1987. Ohashi's academic career began with a brief stint as a Researcher at Mitsui Petrochemical Industries Ltd. from April to December 1989. He then joined Okayama University as an Assistant in the Faculty of Engineering from December 1989 to December 2003, advanced to Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology from 2004 to 2016, and has served as Professor since April 2016, holding positions in the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology until March 2021, Academic Domain of Natural Science from April 2021 to March 2023, and Academic Domain of Environmental, Life and Natural Sciences from April 2023 to present.

Ohashi's research focuses on precision machining, grinding technology, abrasive machining, tool wear detection and prediction, coolant supply methods in grinding processes, chatter vibration mechanisms, high-efficiency grinding of cemented carbide, SiC ceramics, and magnesium alloys, as well as environmental-harmonic machining and on-machine measurement systems. Notable publications include 'Development of tool life prediction system for square end-mills based on database of servo motor current value' (2025, Journal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems and Manufacturing), 'Study on an Effective Coolant Supply Method in the Side Plunge Grinding Process' (2025, International Journal of Automation Technology), 'Study on the Grinding Temperature of Workpiece in Side Plunge Grinding Process' (2025, International Journal of Automation Technology), 'Study on Milling Characteristics and Surface Integrity of AZ31B Magnesium Alloy' (2024, Transactions of the Indian Institute of Metals), and 'Construction of grinding wheel decision support system using random forests for difficult-to-cut material' (2023, Precision Engineering). He has received numerous awards, including the Machine Tool Technology Promotion Award (論文賞 2025, 奨励賞 2023 and 2022), Best Paper Award at the 18th International Conference on Precision Engineering (2020), Excellent Paper Award at ISAAT2019, social contribution awards from Okayama University Faculty of Engineering (2021, 2017), and education contribution awards (2013, 2004). His work has advanced precision production technologies through regional industry-academia-government collaborations.
