Rate My Professor Kavitha Maithily

Dr. Kavitha Maithily is a Professor in the Department of Home Science at Gandhigram Rural Institute, specializing in Home Science Extension, Child Care and Education, and Children with Special Needs. She earned her M.Sc. in Home Science Extension from Gandhigram Rural Institute in 1996, M.Phil. in Extension Education from Mother Teresa Women's University in 2009, and Ph.D. from Gandhigram Rural Institute in 2016. With 19 years of teaching experience and 16 years of research experience, she has served as Associate Professor in the Department of Home Science since 2018 and holds the position of Professor.

Dr. Maithily's research interests include inclusive education for disabled children, dietary practices and attention deficit hyperactive disorder in children, quality of life of persons with disabilities, sustainable development goal 4 and inclusive learning environments, infrastructural facilities for physically challenged children in rural schools, and university-community engagement. She has published 4 books, 8 chapters in edited volumes, and numerous journal articles, such as 'Sustainable development goal 4: Building an inclusive learning environment for all' (2022), 'Assessing the quality of life of persons receiving disability pension in Kerala and Tamil Nadu' (2025), 'University to Engage the Communities, as their Social Responsibility' (2020), 'Infrastructural Facilities for the Physically Challenged Children in Rural Schools: An Analysis' (2017), and 'Perceptions of Rural Primary School Teachers on inclusive Education for the Disabled' (2014). She has completed major research projects with a total financial outlay exceeding Rs. 8.85 lakhs, including one project funded at Rs. 7.1 lakhs and another at Rs. 1.75 lakhs between 2019 and 2024. Currently guiding five Ph.D. scholars, she has received the Sri. V. Krishnamurthy Gold Medal for the Best Extension Worker Among Teaching Staff from Gandhigram Rural Institute, the Perennial Fund Award from the National Coordinating Institute of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, IIT New Delhi (2020), and a Certificate of Appreciation from the President of Leibniz University Hannover (2014). Her administrative roles include Coordinator of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Programme Officer of Red Ribbon Club, and Organizer of Shanti Sena at the institute. Extension efforts encompass organizing six seminars, workshops, and conferences, delivering three invited talks, and mobilizing 100 de-bonded computers valued at Rs. 5 lakhs for rural digital knowledge centers, school donations, and training.
