About Katri

Katri Kauppi, Associate Professor in the Department of Information and Service Management at Aalto University School of Business and Vice Head of the Department, earned her PhD, MSc, and BSc in Business and Economics from Helsinki School of Economics, completing her doctorate in 2009 as the youngest female graduate from the institution. Her dissertation examined "Challenges of purchasing centralization - Empirical evidence from Public Procurement." Before joining Aalto University on the tenure track in 2012, where she was tenured in 2018, she served as Assistant Professor of Operations Management at Manchester Business School and Assistant Professor of Purchasing and Supply Chain Management at Nottingham University Business School.

Kauppi's research focuses on purchasing and supply chain management, including organizational purchasing behavior, information asymmetry issues in supply chains, public procurement—such as centralization, non-compliant purchases, and services outsourcing—social sustainability in supply chains, and climate change risk management. Notable publications include “If only we'd known”: Theory of supply failure under two-sided information asymmetry” with co-authors in the Journal of Supply Chain Management (2024), “A chief supply chain officer matters – but only when you are in trouble!” in the International Journal of Operations and Production Management (2025), “Sustainable supply chain decisions – (when) does gender matter?” (2026), and the chapter “Institutional theory” in the Handbook of Theories for Purchasing, Supply Chain and Management Research (2022). She has garnered awards including the Best Teaching Material of the Year 2013 at Aalto University School of Business, High Quality Doctoral Dissertation at HSE (2009), Best full paper award at the British Academy of Management conference (2024), Best reviewer award for Supply Chain Management: an international journal (2015), and nomination as Teacher of the Year 2024 by Aalto Business Students (KY). Kauppi serves as Editor for the Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management since 2018 and was listed among the top 2% of scientists worldwide by Stanford/Elsevier in 2024. Her contributions align with several UN Sustainable Development Goals, such as SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
