Thomas's clinical expertise centers on obstetrics, where she has spent the majority of her professional nursing career. Certified as a perinatal nurse by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and serving as a clinical nurse specialist in women's health, she worked for over ten years as an advanced practice nurse specializing in high-risk obstetrics at Tri-State Perinatology. Her transition to academia commenced in 2006 when she began teaching as an adjunct professor for the University of Evansville, delivering instruction in pediatrics and obstetrics in hospital-based settings. In 2018, she returned to UE full-time as an assistant professor of nursing, eventually ascending to her current role as chair. In this capacity, she primarily teaches courses at the sophomore level.

Thomas leads the nursing program with a commitment to innovation, compassion, and excellence. Notably, under her leadership, the University of Evansville nursing program achieved a 100% first-time pass rate on the NCLEX-RN examination, underscoring the effectiveness of the program's preparation for professional practice.
