About Kamal

Professor Kamal Sud is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney's Nepean Clinical School, Faculty of Medicine and Health. He holds MD and DM degrees in Nephrology, completed his nephrology training in India in 1992, followed by formal training in peritoneal dialysis at Toronto Western Hospital in Canada. He relocated to Australia in 2005 and has since built a distinguished career in renal medicine. Currently, he serves as Director of Renal Services for the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District at Nepean Hospital, Head of the Department of Renal Medicine, and Clinical Academic Lead. Within the Western Renal Service, he directs the peritoneal dialysis program at the Regional Dialysis Centre, Blacktown Hospital. His academic and clinical leadership extends to memberships in the ANZDATA Peritoneal Dialysis Working Group and faculty of the ANZ PD Academy.

Professor Sud's research specializations encompass nephrology, with a focus on peritoneal dialysis outcomes, peritonitis management, technique failure, acute kidney injury, and home dialysis strategies. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications, including highly cited works such as 'A randomized, controlled trial of steroids and cyclophosphamide in adults with nephrotic syndrome caused by idiopathic membranous nephropathy' (2007, 488 citations), 'End-stage renal disease in India and Pakistan: burden of disease and management issues' (2003, 289 citations), and recent contributions like 'Hospital-acquired peritonitis in patients on peritoneal dialysis: A call to action' (2023) and 'Hybrid dialysis: Two modalities twice the benefit?' (2025). He contributes editorially as a subject editor for two international journals and holds leadership roles in global nephrology organizations, including the Executive Council of the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology as ANZSN representative, International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis committees on Nominations, Scholarships and Awards, and Standards & Guidelines, ISN CME Program Committee, and the Joint ISN-ISPD International Home Dialysis Consortium.
