Professor Kalyan Mondal serves as Professor of Electrical Engineering within the Engineering faculty at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he holds key leadership positions as Interim Chair of the Gildart Haase School of Engineering and Director of the Center for Cybersecurity and Information Assurance. He earned his BSc, BTech, and MTech from the University of Kolkata and his PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara. After 25 years in industrial research and development, Mondal joined Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2006. He introduced new courses and laboratory exercises in electrical and computer engineering using industry-standard hardware and software tools. Mondal enhanced the information technology programs at the Metro and Vancouver campuses and developed several five-year degree programs.
Mondal contributed to ABET accreditation for engineering, engineering technology, and information technology programs and is involved in ongoing re-accreditation efforts. He led FDU's designation as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the NSA and DHS since 2013 and co-developed a new MS degree program. In 2017, he secured a $300,000 NSA grant for cybersecurity exercises in multiple courses. Since 2019, he has helped obtain over $1.3 million from the DoD for scholarships. Mondal started and co-directed the high school Cyber Science and Engineering Outreach Program to build cybersecurity talent pipelines. His research specializations encompass Sigma Delta Analog to Digital Conversion, Internet of Things, and MATLAB Notebook for Signal Processing. In 2022, he received the University Distinguished Faculty for Service award and has served on committees for education policy, personnel review, faculty, and more.
