Dr. K. Barathiraja serves as Associate Professor (Research) of Political Science in the School of Law at Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology. He holds an M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. As Centre Head of the Centre for Social Science Research (CSSR), he oversees research in quantitative and survey methods, economic and physical infrastructure impacts, and socio-economic empowerment, with a focus on sex ratio improvements. Under his leadership, the centre conducts projects such as the Impact Assessment of Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission (SPMRM) in Tamil Nadu, funded by ICSSR with ₹4.55 lakhs from 2022-2023, and contributes to empirical studies on social development.

Dr. Barathiraja is the Principal Investigator for the ICSSR-sponsored project 'Socio-Economic Empowerment through Improving Sex Ratio: An Empirical Study with Special Reference to Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) in Dharmapuri District of Tamil Nadu,' initiated on December 26, 2023, with a grant of ₹9,65,600 for one year. His scholarly contributions include publications on key socio-political topics, such as 'Women Political Participation in India with Special Reference to Tamil Nadu' (2022), 'Agricultural Bills 2020: An Analytical Study' (2022), 'A Case Study of SC/ST Women in Tamil Nadu,' and 'Implementation of the Provisions of Panchayats (Extension to SC/ST) Act, 1997.' He actively participates in academic events, including judging intra-moot court competitions and delivering special addresses at conferences on political science and vulnerable communities' empowerment. His work advances understanding of political participation, gender issues, and rural governance in India.
