Rate My Professor Jyotirmay Banerjee

Dr. Jyotirmay Banerjee serves as Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat, Gujarat, India. He earned his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in January 2005. His research focuses on multi-phase flow and heat transfer, phase change processes, computational fluid dynamics, combustion, and turbomachines. He heads the Advanced Fluid Dynamics Laboratory. Over his career at SVNIT, he has held key administrative roles such as Dean (Academic) since November 2017, Professor In-charge (Research Park) since November 2017, Director of ASHINE NIDHI-TBI since November 2017, and Professor Incharge of the Library Committee since June 2011. Previously, he served as Postgraduate Incharge for M.Tech programs in Turbomachines (2006-2011 and 2013 onwards) and Thermal Systems Design (2011-2012), Departmental Coordinator for TEQIP (2006-2011), Faculty Advisor for SAE (2009-2011), and Hostel Warden (2005-2007).

Dr. Banerjee co-authored two books: 'Conduction and Radiation' (Alpha Science International Ltd., Oxford, UK; Narosa Publishing House, New Delhi, 2010) and 'Czochralski Growth of Oxide Crystals: Numerical Simulation and Experiments' (TechScience Press, USA, 2007), both with K. Muralidhar. He has over 100 peer-reviewed journal publications, including two selected as Editors’ Picks in Physics of Fluids by the American Institute of Physics. He has led and co-led research projects funded by SERB, BRNS, ARDB, and DRDO, such as investigations into thermal dispersion of effluents (Rs. 24.996 lakhs, 2014), swirl can combustors (Rs. 20.12 lakhs, 2014), and slug flow regimes (Rs. 25.184 lakhs, 2014). Consultancy services include work for THDC HPP, UJVNL, and Koteshwar Hydroelectric Project. He serves as Associate Editor of Sadhana and Guest Editor for special issues on fluid mechanics. Dr. Banerjee is a Life Member of ISTE and ISHMT, Senior Member of IACSIT, Member of SAE India and Institution of Engineers India, and Life Member of FMFP. He has delivered numerous lectures on CFD, heat transfer, and two-phase flows at STTPs and workshops.
