Julien Bourget, PhD, is an Adjunct Research Fellow in the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Western Australia. He earned his PhD in Marine Sedimentology from the University of Bordeaux in 2009, MSc in Oceanography, Environment, Sedimentology, and Paleo-oceanography from the same institution in 2006, and BSc in Geology, Paleontology, and Sedimentology from the University of Lyon in 2004. Currently, since 2019, he serves as Senior Sedimentologist and Stratigrapher at TotalEnergies, while holding his adjunct position at UWA. His previous appointments at UWA include Senior Lecturer from 2015 to 2018 and Lecturer from 2011 to 2015. Earlier, he was a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Australian School of Petroleum, University of Adelaide, from 2010 to 2011. He also served as coordinator of the Master of Petroleum Geoscience program and Assistant Director of the Centre for Energy Geoscience.
Bourget's research specializations include sedimentology, sequence and seismic stratigraphy, basin analysis, and 3D seismic geomorphology. His academic interests focus on deep-water sedimentology and petroleum reservoir properties such as turbiditic processes and sandstone reservoirs, stratigraphic architecture of continental slope and basin deposits in clastic and carbonate systems, tectono-stratigraphic evolution of sedimentary basins including Australia's North West Shelf, carbonate margins and slopes, calciturbidites, and characterization of siliciclastic shallow marine reservoirs using integrated datasets. He has produced 45 research outputs, including "Evolution of the Exmouth-Barrow carbonate margin through the Miocene: Insights from 3D seismic data and field investigations" (Sedimentary Geology, 2023, with R. Riera et al.), "3-D seismic chronostratigraphy of reefs and drifts in the Browse Basin, NW Australia" (Bulletin of the Geological Society of America, 2022, with S. Thronberens et al.), "Early Miocene carbonate ramp development in a warm ocean, North West Shelf, Australia" (Sedimentology, 2022, with R. Riera et al.), "Distinct petroacoustic signature in heterozoan and photozoan carbonates resulting from combined depositional and diagenetic processes" (Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2021, with C. Matonti et al.), and "Middle Miocene tropical oligotrophic lagoon deposit sheds light on the origin of the Western Australian coral reef province" (Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, 2021, with R. Riera et al.). His work has garnered over 1,800 citations.
