Dr Julie Trinidad is a theologian and educator currently holding the position of Catholic Studies Lecturer, Course Coordinator, and Program Director of the Graduate Certificate in Education (Catholic Education) in the School of Education, College of Education, Behavioural and Social Sciences at Adelaide University. She also contributes to the Catholic Identity and Mission Team at Catholic Education SA. Trinidad's extensive academic qualifications include a PhD from the Australian Catholic University, supervised by Professor Denis Edwards OAM, with research conducted partly as a visiting scholar at the Cardinal Walter Kasper Institute for Theology, Ecumenism and Spirituality in Vallendar, Germany; a Master of Religious Studies from KU Leuven in Belgium; a Master of Educational Studies and a Bachelor of Theology from Flinders University; a Bachelor of Education from the University of Adelaide; a Graduate Diploma in Spiritual Direction from the Australian Catholic University; a Graduate Certificate of Theological Studies from the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, United States; and completion of the Institute for Spirituality and Worship Program at the same institution, along with ongoing practical training as a Spiritual Director with the Arrupe Program.
Her research specializations focus on pneumatology and its implications for the life and mission of the Catholic Church, ministry and educational leadership, the theology and ecclesiology of Walter Kasper, women in ecclesial leadership, and children's theologising about living in digital worlds. Throughout her career, she served as Catholic Studies Lecturer at the University of South Australia from 2011 to 2025, Tutor in Theology at Flinders University from 2009 to 2011, Ministry Formation Program Coordinator for the Catholic Archdiocese of Adelaide, Coordinator of Youth Ministry for the same Archdiocese, and held teaching and leadership roles such as Religious Education Coordinator and Assistant Principal Religious Identity and Mission in Catholic secondary schools in South Australia, the Northern Territory, and Manila, Philippines. Key publications include "Women's participation and collaboration in ecclesial leadership in the local church of Adelaide" (Australasian Catholic Record, 2025), "Contributions of Walter Kasper's pneumatology to a theology of deep incarnation" in God and the Natural World (2020), "The Holy Spirit and lay ecclesial ministry: reflections for the 2020 Plenary Council" (Australasian Catholic Record, 2019), "The Holy Spirit in the theology of Walter Kasper: engaging the faith experience of the Laity" (Marriage, Families and Spirituality, 2014), and "St Ignatius' Rules for thinking with the Church: Spiritual Direction for a Synodal Church" (British Jesuits, 2024). She is a member of the Commission for Formation for the Archdiocese of Adelaide since 2023 and teaches courses such as Catholic Scriptures: An Introduction, Catholic Theology: An Introduction, Catholic Education for Secondary Teaching, and Being Human in a Relational Universe.
