Professor Judith Finn is Adjunct Professor in the UWA Medical School, Emergency Medicine. She earned her PhD in epidemiology from the University of Western Australia in 2002, utilizing Western Australia ambulance data linked to hospital and death records. Her earlier qualifications include an MEdStudies and Graduate Diploma in Public Health from the University of Adelaide, a BSc from the same institution majoring in Zoology and Psychology, and nursing credentials comprising a Diploma of Applied Science in Nursing, Registered Nurse status, Registered Midwife, and Intensive Care Nursing Certificate. Beginning her career as a critical care registered nurse and midwife, Finn advanced through academic roles at UWA. She served as Senior Lecturer in Clinical Epidemiology in the School of Population Health from 2002 to 2006, Director of Postgraduate Studies and Deputy Head of School from 2004 to 2007, inaugural Chair in Nursing Research in a joint appointment with Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital from 2007 to 2010, and Research Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine prior to 2013. Currently, she directs the Preshospital, Resuscitation and Emergency Care Research Unit (PRECRU) at Curtin University since 2013 and was inaugural Director of the Australian Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (Aus-ROC), a NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence, from 2012 to 2019.
Finn's research focuses on clinical epidemiology, resuscitation outcomes, education and policy, pre-hospital and emergency care, cardiovascular epidemiology, critical care outcomes research, acute care nursing practice, nursing-related patient outcomes, out-of-hospital cardiac arrest outcomes, and pre-hospital clinical trials. She has authored over 280 peer-reviewed publications, accumulating more than 22,000 citations and an h-index of 70. Landmark contributions include leading the PACA trial, PARAMEDIC 2 trial on adrenaline, RINSE trial on hypothermia, and EXACT trial on oxygen, which have shaped international resuscitation guidelines and clinical practice. She has secured over $30 million in competitive research funding, including an NHMRC Leadership Fellowship for improving outcomes after cardiac arrest and an MRFF grant for older persons' emergency care. Recognized with the John Curtin Distinguished Professor title at Curtin University in 2018, Fellowship of the American Heart Association in 2012, and honorary membership of the European Resuscitation Council in 2017, Finn has contributed to the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) for over two decades, co-chairing task forces and authoring key publications. In Australia, she has been involved with the Australian Resuscitation Council since 1993 and chairs its Western Australian Branch.
