About Jude

Jude Onwudili is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Aston University in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He holds a PhD from the University of Leeds, awarded in 2005, and a BSc from the University of Ibadan. Before joining Aston as a Lecturer in November 2015, he was a Research and Teaching Fellow at the Energy Research Institute, School of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Leeds from 2006 to 2015. At Aston, he advanced to Senior Lecturer in 2020, Reader in 2023, and Professor in 2025. Currently, he serves as Co-Director of the Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI) and Co-Director of the NET2ZERO Centre for Doctoral Training on Negative Emissions Technologies, where he also leads industrial engagement.

A Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), he is also an Associate Member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, Full Member of the Society of Chemical Industry, and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Onwudili's research specializations include hydrothermal processing of biomass and organic wastes, catalysis for fuels and chemicals production, thermochemical conversion via pyrolysis, liquefaction, and gasification of biomass, algae, plastics, and municipal solid wastes, as well as CO2 utilization and emission control. He leads the Sustainable Fuels and Chemicals Research Team at EBRI. Notable publications encompass "Advancing CO2 utilisation via suspension-based carboxylation of single and mixed biomass-derived phenolics to produce high-value hydroxybenzoic acids" (Chemical Engineering Journal, 2025), "Production of syringic acid by direct CO2 insertion into syringol via a Kolbe–Schmitt type reaction" (RSC Sustainability, 2026), and "Assessment of Prosopis juliflora feedstock for bioethanol production potential via hydrolysis and physicochemical analysis" (Industrial Crops and Products, 2025). He holds editorial positions, including Advisory Board Member for the Journal of Applied and Analytical Pyrolysis, ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, and RSC Sustainable Energy & Fuels, and Associate Editor for Frontiers in Chemistry's Chemical Engineering section.
