Paltakari obtained his Master's degree in Engineering and Technology from Helsinki University of Technology on 12 February 1991, followed by a Licentiate degree on 19 September 1995 and a Doctoral degree (D.Sc.(Tech)) on 21 December 2000 from the same institution, which merged into Aalto University in 2010. As principal investigator, he leads projects such as Improving Purity, Cleanliness and Hygiene of Fibre-Based Packaging Material Using Chemistry in Recycling Processes (PuriChem, 2024–2028) and Business from Intelligent Traceable Marking and Authentication (Luminotrace, 2013–2015).
