João Phillipe Cardenuto is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Computing of Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). He earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering from UNICAMP. In 2024, he completed his PhD at UNICAMP with the thesis titled Strengthening Scientific Integrity: Digital Forensics for Biomedical Research Imaging, advised by Anderson de Rezende Rocha with co-advisor Daniel Henriques Moreira.
Cardenuto’s research centers on digital forensics applied to scientific images, with a focus on detecting manipulations, reuses, and synthetic content in biomedical publications to support scientific integrity. His work includes the development of automated analysis tools, provenance methods, and detectors for AI-generated images, as well as the creation of open datasets and benchmarks. He is affiliated with the Artificial Intelligence Lab (Recod.ai) at UNICAMP and has contributed to publications on topics such as scientific image analysis systems and the challenges of synthetic realities in research.
