Jo Gibson is the Director of Student Experience at the University of Otago, a role she has held since June 2019. This division encompasses Student Administration, which manages academic integrity, admissions, course and records management, examinations, graduation, research and doctoral administration, scholarships, awards, and prizes, alongside Student Development and Timetables. Her leadership ensures comprehensive support for students throughout their academic lifecycle, from initial enrolment to final graduation, contributing to an enhanced overall student experience at one of New Zealand's premier universities.
Bringing over 20 years of experience in professional services roles from UK universities, Jo Gibson previously worked as a consultant reviewing and advising Students’ Associations and university advice services on service provision related to student experience. Her robust academic and professional qualifications include a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science, an MA in Student Support and Management, an MSc in Management and Law (International Business), PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner project management qualifications, and the A1 Assessor qualification. Actively engaged in governance, she serves on the University of Otago Senate, Quality Advancement Committee, and Internationalisation Committee, and is Vice Chair of the Universities NZ Community of Practice on Student Administration and Academic Services. As an auditor for the Australasian Quality Assurance agency, she upholds high standards in higher education. Under her direction, key improvements have been implemented, such as enhancements to the eVision Change of Course process and postgraduate admissions, alongside adaptations for flexibility during disruptions.
