Jennifer Muth serves as Master Lecturer and Assistant Chair in the Department of Psychology at Old Dominion University, where she has been a full-time faculty member for nearly 20 years and has taught psychology courses for nearly 25 years. She earned her B.S. in Psychology in 1995, M.S. in General/Experimental Psychology in 1998, and Ed.S. in Higher Education in 2022, all from Old Dominion University. Muth teaches courses including Social Psychology, Cross-Cultural Psychology, and Positive Psychology, emphasizing student engagement through innovative methods such as ePortfolios and integrative learning communities. Her teaching extends to leading study abroad programs, including trips to Rome, and facilitating workshops on topics like classroom management, advising etiquette, and emotional intelligence.
Muth's scholarly contributions include a publication co-authored with T.F. Cash, 'Body-image attitudes: What difference does gender make?', published in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology in 1997 (volume 27, pp. 1438-1452). She participated in the grant-funded project 'Using integrative learning to improve disciplinary writing' (2017-2018, $19,981) with colleagues A. Landers, S. Morrow, and M. Still. Additionally, she has presented extensively on pedagogy and student success, with over 25 oral presentations and posters at events such as the Association for Psychological Science (2018), Association of American Colleges & Universities ePortfolio Forum (2019), Center for Learning Technologies Summer Institute, Psi Chi, and Old Dominion University internal programs from 1996 to 2019. Her presentations cover ePortfolios for integrative learning, recommendation letter etiquette, motivating students, and professional development for faculty and advisors. Muth has held roles such as Undergraduate Program Director and Faculty Advisor for Psi Chi. She has received numerous honors, including the 2018 Shining Star Award from the Division of Student Affairs, 2017 Outstanding Undergraduate Advisor of the Year from the College of Sciences, 2005 March Faculty of the Month Award, 2020 Above and Beyond Award, recognition as Most Inspirational Faculty Member, and 2023 service award for 20 years at ODU.
