Professor Emeritus Jennifer Hill is a leading authority in corporate law affiliated with the University of Sydney Law School. She earned her BA LLB (Hons) from the University of Sydney and BCL from Oxford University. During her tenure at the University of Sydney Law School, she held the position of Professor of Corporate Law and served as a Director of the Ross Parsons Centre of Commercial, Corporate and Taxation Law. Hill has been a visiting teacher and researcher at renowned institutions worldwide, including the University of Cambridge, Cornell University, Duke University, New York University School of Law, University of Virginia School of Law, University of Texas School of Law, and Vanderbilt University Law School. She is currently the Bob Baxt AO Chair in Corporate and Commercial Law at Monash University Faculty of Law and Director of the Centre for Commercial Law and Regulatory Studies.
Her academic interests focus on corporate law theory, comparative corporate governance, directors' duties, executive remuneration, shareholder rights and activism, corporate culture, takeover defenses, financial market regulation, enforcement, and corporate crime. Key publications include 'The Trajectory of American Corporate Governance: Shareholder Empowerment and Private Ordering Combat' in the University of Illinois Law Review (2019), 'Regulatory Cooperation in Securities Market Regulation: The Australian Experience' in the European Company and Financial Law Review (2020), 'Good Activist/Bad Activist: The Role of International Stewardship Codes' in the Seattle University Law Review (2018), and 'Shifting Contours of Directors’ Fiduciary Duties and Norms in Comparative Corporate Governance' in the UC Irvine Journal of International, Transnational, and Comparative Law (2020). Hill's research has appeared in leading journals such as Corporate Governance: An International Review and Company and Securities Law Journal, with findings downloaded over 38,000 times on SSRN. Among her honors are Fellowship in the Australian Academy of Law, Senior Global Research Fellowship under the Hauser Global Fellows Program at NYU School of Law (2015), and Visiting Fellowship at Clare Hall, University of Cambridge (2018). She serves as a Research Member of the European Corporate Governance Institute on its Research Committee and as Chair of the Research Member Engagement Committee, and was a member of the External Advisory Panel of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.
