About Jeng

Professor Jeng Ywan Jeng serves as Visiting Professor in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering at the University of Sydney. He holds the position of Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), where he has been affiliated since 1992 and was promoted around 2000. Additionally, he is Director of the High Speed 3D Printing Research Center at NTUST since July 2018. His academic background includes a BS in Mechanical Engineering from National Cheng Kung University (1981–1985), an MSc from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (1988–1989), and a PhD from the University of Liverpool, Graduate Institute of Mechanical Engineering (1989–1992). He was a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Department of Electrical Engineering (2001–2002), and at the University of Cambridge, Institute of Manufacturing (2008).

Jeng-Ywan Jeng's career encompasses significant leadership roles, including Dean of the College of Engineering at NTUST (2013–2016), Dean of the Office of R&D (2007–2009), and Director General of the TECO Conglomerate Research Institute (2005–2008). He founded the College of Engineering EMRD/CTO Program at NTUST (2016), Taiwan 3D Tech LLC (2016), and the 3D Printing Association, Republic of China (2014), serving as its Founder, President, and Honor President. He has held independent directorships at GlobalWafers, ANT Precision Industry Co. Ltd., and Actron Technology Corporation (2018–2021), and consulted for 3D printing firms such as PouChen, Franz, and AvioCast (2016–2019). His research specializations focus on additive manufacturing (3D printing or rapid prototyping), laser processing, corporate R&D patents, and knowledge management. Key research topics include high-speed 3D printing via LCD, DLP, powder-based SLS, and VAT photopolymerization. Notable publications include 'A State-of-the-Art Review on Types, Design, Optimization, and Additive Manufacturing of Cellular Structures' (2019), 'A High-Speed Additive Manufacturing Approach for Achieving High Printing Speed and Accuracy' (2019), 'Projection stereolithography of biocompatible polymer structures' (2016), 'Development of 17-4 PH Stainless Steel for Low-Power Selective Laser Melting Additive Manufacturing' (2025), and 'Additive Manufacturing of Liquid-Entrapped Architected Structures' (2025). He has authored over 30 refereed papers and holds more than 40 patents across Taiwan, Japan, China, and the USA. He teaches courses such as Additive Manufacture, Laser Processing, and Principles and Applications of 3D Printing.
