About Jason

Jason M. Norris serves as Associate Professor of Kinesiology and Interim Chair of the Health Sciences Department in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Texas A&M International University. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from Arizona State University, along with a B.S. from Central Washington University. Norris's research specializations include physical education teacher evaluation, physical activity, physical activity and academic performance, and barriers to physical activity. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses such as Teaching Physical Education in Secondary Schools (KINE 3310), Exercise Prescription (KINE 4318), Health and Physical Education for Elementary Schools (KINE 3207), Coaching (KINE 3301), Principles of Health Promotion (KINE 3312), and Special Topics in Kinesiology (KINE 4320), among others focused on kinesiology and physical education.

Norris has contributed to the academic field through several peer-reviewed publications examining physical education teacher preparation and evaluation. Notable works include co-authorship on "Physical Education Preservice Teachers’ Perceptions About Preparation for Comprehensive School Physical Activity Programs" published in Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport in 2018; "Administrators' Perceptions of Physical Education Teacher Evaluation" in 2017; "A Document Analysis of Physical Education Teacher Evaluation Systems" in Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport; and "I Need Help! Physical Educators Transition to Distance Learning During COVID-19" in 2021. His scholarship, cited over 190 times on Google Scholar, impacts teacher education and school-based physical activity promotion. In recognition of his contributions, Norris received the Scholar of the Year award from the College of Education at Texas A&M International University in 2017. He also serves as a Quality Matters Master Reviewer.
