Jaroslaw Harezlak

Jaroslaw Harezlak, Ph.D., is Provost Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington. He earned a B.Sc. in Mathematics from Simon Fraser University in 1995, an M.Sc. in Statistics from the University of British Columbia in 1998, a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from Harvard University in 2005, and completed a research fellowship in Biostatistics at the Harvard School of Public Health. Harezlak joined Indiana University in 2007 following his postdoctoral training. He has held visiting appointments at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Sydney, Australia, and serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Wroclaw, Poland. His research specializations encompass regularization methods, functional data analysis, semiparametric regression, brain imaging, wearable devices, brain connectivity, mild traumatic brain injury, neurodegenerative diseases, and physical activity.

Harezlak has authored over 160 peer-reviewed publications, including the book Semiparametric Regression with R (Springer, 2018), co-authored with David Ruppert and Matt P. Wand. Notable publications include 'ADHD and epilepsy in childhood' (Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology, 2003) and contributions to the NCAA-DoD Concussion Assessment, Research and Education consortium studies on concussion effects in collegiate athletes. As principal investigator on multiple NIH grants, his work has received over 10,900 citations. In 2020, he was elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association. He has mentored six postdoctoral fellows and ten doctoral students, with several earning national honors. His service includes over 20 NIH and international grant review panels, leadership in departmental and university committees, and associate editor roles for Statistics in Biosciences, Biostatistics and Epidemiology, and Sensors. Harezlak has presented at leading conferences worldwide and facilitated workshops, including Analysis of Longitudinal Data at the Sydney School of Public Health.
