Associate Professor Jan Vaile holds the position of Clinical Associate Professor in the Central Clinical School within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. She is also a Consultant Rheumatologist and Senior Staff Specialist in the Department of Rheumatology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) in Sydney. RPAH Rheumatology is recognized as one of the largest sites for advanced training in rheumatology in Australia and collaborates with the University of Sydney through the Institute for Musculoskeletal Health, a partnership focused on musculoskeletal conditions. Vaile's professional roles encompass clinical care, teaching, and contributions to rheumatology training programs, including supervision at RPAH as part of the New South Wales advanced training network affiliated with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Vaile earned her Bachelor of Medicine with Honours (BMed Hons), Master of Medical Science in Clinical Epidemiology (MMedSci Clin Epi), and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP). Her academic and clinical work centers on rheumatology, with a focus on osteoporosis management, fracture liaison services, and related complications such as low-trauma fractures. Key publications include 'A Year of Fractures: a snapshot analysis of the logistics, problems and outcomes of a hospital-based fracture liaison service' co-authored with Sullivan L, Connor D, and Bleasel J, published in Osteoporosis International in 2013. She also co-authored 'Intravenous Zoledronate and Oral Alendronate in Patients with a Low Trauma Fracture: experience from an osteoporosis clinic' with Craig S, Youssef P, Sullivan L, and Bleasel J in the Internal Medicine Journal in 2011. In 2016, Vaile authored 'Ongoing osteoporosis management: Dealing with dilemmas' in Medicine Today. Additionally, she contributed to the international Capture the Fracture best practice framework and global call to action for secondary fracture prevention, published in 2013. More recently, she co-authored an abstract on dynamic SPECT imaging in the Internal Medicine Journal in 2024 with Crumpton A, Brewer A, and Fulham M. Vaile is listed among contributors in the Australian Rheumatology Association's 2024 Annual Achievement Report, reflecting her ongoing involvement in the field.
