Dr. Jamie L. Johnson is a Professor and Interim Director of the School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration at Western Illinois University. He earned a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in August 2002, a Master of Science degree in Health Sciences, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. His teaching interests encompass emergency management, homeland security, public health preparedness, research methods, statistics, behavioral theory, medical topics, and fitness. Dr. Johnson's research interests include all hazard principles, weapons of mass destruction, emergency management, homeland security, behavioral theory, health and safety issues, ergonomics, and violence in the community and schools.
Dr. Johnson has published articles in peer-reviewed journals on emergency management, weapons of mass destruction, health sciences, safety, public preparedness, homeland security, survival, search and rescue, and education. He has collaborated on a series of articles outlining plans for a Homeland Security Intelligence Academy. Throughout his career at Western Illinois University, he developed computer simulations incorporating animation technology with divergent outcomes, accessible through the Illinois Delivery of Education Alliance Resource Clearinghouse. As a consultant to governmental organizations, private industry, K-12 schools, hospitals, universities, and private businesses, he teaches hand-to-hand combat, bladed weaponry, blunt weaponry, flexible weaponry, firearm tactics, tracking methods, and wilderness/urban survival concepts, and assists in designing emergency operational centers, developing emergency operational plans, continuity of operations plans, conducting threat assessments, and creating evacuation plans. He has developed eight curricula to strengthen students' capabilities in medicine, health sciences, emergency management, and homeland security, and has presented at state, national, and international conferences. Dr. Johnson has trained in martial arts since 1987, studying several styles, reflecting his ongoing commitment to health and personal safety.
