Rate My Professor Jacqueline Mowbray

Mowbray's research specializations lie in international law and legal theory, with a particular emphasis on international human rights law, language policy, and linguistic minorities. Her major publications include the book Linguistic Justice: International Law and Language Policy (Oxford University Press, 2012), co-authorship of The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: Commentary, Cases, and Materials (Oxford University Press), which received the American Society of International Law Certificate of Merit, and key articles such as 'The Right to Food and the International Economic System: An Assessment of the Rights-Based Approach to the Problem of World Hunger' (2007) and 'Multilingualism, Translation and International Law: Four Myths' (2024). She was awarded a three-year Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship and the 2024 Council of Australian Law Deans Australian Legal Research Award in the Article/Chapter category for the latter article. Since 2018, she has served as external legal adviser to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights, advising on legislative compatibility with international human rights treaties and influencing changes, including to aged care restraint provisions and the ParentsNext program. Her contributions extend to co-directing the Sydney Centre for International Law and editorial work with the Sydney Law Review.
