Dr. Jacqueline Guevara serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work within George Mason University’s College of Public Health. A Washington, DC native, she brings over 15 years of experience in social work, holding licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia and the District of Columbia. Her academic credentials include a Doctor of Social Work in Leadership and Advanced Management from the University of Southern California (2018), a Master of Social Work in Clinical Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh (2010), a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Social Work from George Mason University (2008), and an Associate of Liberal Arts in Psychology from Northern Virginia Community College (2006). Her professional career features extensive roles in child welfare agencies, including Senior Social Worker at Fairfax County Department of Family Services (2016-2017), Substance Abuse Counselor II at Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (2013-2016), School Social Worker at Fairfax County Public Schools (2017-2018), and School Social Worker at Prince William County Public Schools (2010-2013).
Currently, Dr. Guevara operates her private practice, Jacqueline Guevara, LLC (since 2018), providing mental health counseling and behavioral assessments to residents in Virginia and DC using evidence-based therapies such as CBT, DBT, TF-CBT, and others. She previously taught as an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Maryland Global Campus while living in Germany (2019-2022) and has taught various courses at George Mason University, including Clinical Practice with Children, Youth, and Family (SOWK 683), Clinical Social Work in Forensic Settings (SOWK 630), Introduction to Social Work (SOWK 200), and Family Therapy (SOWK 677). Her research interests include mental health, juvenile justice, trauma/PTSD, and cultural stress, highlighted by her doctoral dissertation, “Acculturation Team-Based Clinical Program: Pilot Program to Address Acculturative Stress and Mental Health in the Latino Community” (2018, University of Southern California). Dr. Guevara is also a recognized panelist and guest speaker on mental health, trauma, overall wellness, advocacy in the social work field, and increasing mental health support in schools.
