Hormoz Movassaghi serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Finance and International Business in the School of Business at Ithaca College. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in International Business, along with an M.A. in Health Services Administration, all from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Additionally, he earned an M.S. and B.S. in Economics from Shiraz (Pahlavi) University in Iran. Since 2003, Movassaghi has been Professor of Finance and International Business at Ithaca College, where he has undertaken significant administrative roles, including Associate Dean for Academic Development and External Relations from June 2006 to December 2009, Acting Assistant Dean for Student Services from December 2008 to May 2009, Interim Associate Dean from August 2005 to May 2006, and Chair of the Department of Business Administration from June 2004 to July 2005. Prior to his full-time appointment, he taught as adjunct faculty from 1993 to 1997 at SUNY Binghamton University, Tompkins Cortland Community College, and Empire State College. In May-June 2017, he served as visiting faculty at SRH University Heidelberg, Germany. Movassaghi teaches a range of courses, including Financial Markets and Institutions, Personal Financial Planning and Wealth Management, Business Finance, International Business Operations, Rise of China in the Global Economy, and Managing in a Global Economy for MBA students.
His research focuses on socially responsible investing, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies and their impact on financial performance, sustainability strategies of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and green finance. Key refereed publications include “China’s Global Integration: is ‘Slowbalization’ setting in”? (Journal of Euromarketing, 2023), “Embracing Sustainability: A Survey of US Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises” with Narges Kasiri (Journal of Applied Business and Economics, 2023), “Sustainability Engagement or Not? US SMEs Approach” with Kasiri and Sarah Lamoureux (Journal of Small Business Strategy, 2020), “Socially Conscious Investing: Do Good Deeds Get Punished?” with Judy Qiu and Alka Bramhandkar (Social Responsibility Journal, 2018), and “The Role of Government Support in SMEs’ Adoption of Sustainability” with Kasiri and Lamoureux (IEEE Engineering Management Journal, 2019). Movassaghi has delivered numerous presentations at international conferences, such as “Do Funds’ Sustainability Rating Matter - A Longitudinal Analysis?” at the International Conference on Business and Technology in Edinburgh (2025) and “China's Global Integration: is 'Slowbalization' Setting in?” at the International Management Development Association World Business Congress in Finland (2022). He maintains affiliations with the Financial Management Association, International Management Development Association, and International Trade & Finance Association, serves as Faculty Athletic Mentor for men's soccer, and participates in college committees including the All-College Committees on Assessment, Policy, and Curriculum.
