Hormoz Movassaghi serves as Professor and Chair of the Finance and International Business department within the School of Business at Ithaca College, a role he has occupied since 2003. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in International Business and an M.S. in International Business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, complemented by an M.A. in Health Services Administration from the same university, as well as an M.S. in Economics and a B.S. in Economics from Shiraz (Pahlavi) University in Iran. Throughout his career at Ithaca College, Movassaghi has held significant administrative positions, including Associate Dean for Academic Development and External Relations from June 2006 to December 2009, Acting Assistant Dean for Student Services from December 2008 to May 2009, Interim Associate Dean from August 2005 to May 2006, and Chair of the Department of Business Administration from June 2004 to July 2005. Earlier, he worked as Adjunct Faculty at State University of New York institutions such as Binghamton University, Tompkins Cortland Community College, and Empire State College from 1993 to 1997, and served as Visiting Faculty at SRH University Heidelberg, Germany, in May-June 2017. He also received research grants from the US Department of Health & Human Services between 1987 and 1989.
Movassaghi's research focuses on socially responsible investing, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies and their financial performance, sustainability strategies of small and medium-sized enterprises, and green finance. Key publications include “China’s Global Integration: is ‘Slowbalization’ setting in”? in the Journal of Euromarketing (2023), “Embracing Sustainability: A Survey of US Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises” with Narges Kasiri in the Journal of Applied Business and Economics (2023), “Socially Conscious Investing: Do Good Deeds Get Punished?” with Judy Qiu and Alka Bramhandkar in the Social Responsibility Journal (2018), “The Role of Government Support in SMEs’ Adoption of Sustainability” with Narges Kasiri in the IEEE Engineering Management Journal (2019), “Sustainability Engagement or Not? US SMEs Approach” with Narges Kasiri and Sarah Lamoureux in the Journal of Small Business Strategy (2020), and “GMO Policies and Practices: A Global Overview with Special Focus on Turkey” with Erdogan Gunes, Fahri Unsal, and Nurdan Tuna Gunes as a chapter in Policy Issues in Genetically Modified Crops (Elsevier, 2020). He has delivered numerous presentations at international conferences, such as “Do Funds’ Sustainability Rating Matter - A Longitudinal Analysis?” with Alka Bramhandkar at the International Conference on Business and Technology, University of Edinburgh (2025), “Supply Chain, Environmental Sustainability, and Financial Performance: A Case Study of Globally Ranked Firms” at the International Academy of Business and Public Administration Disciplines (2023), and “Global Integration of China and India: A Historical Analysis” with Fahri Unsal at the International Management Development Association World Business Congress (2019). Movassaghi teaches courses including Financial Markets and Institutions, International Business Operations, and Managing in a Global Economy for MBA students, serves as Faculty Athletic Mentor for men's soccer, and is a member of the All-College Committees on Assessment, Policy, and Curriculum for 2025-2026.
