Dr. Hong Xie serves as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Information Technology at Murdoch University. His academic career at the institution includes contributions to teaching and research, notably as the unit coordinator for ICT374: Introduction to GCC and C Programming. Xie has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in international conferences and journals, focusing on computational methods and applications in information technology. Notable works include 'Vertex Configurations and Their Relationship on Orthogonal Pseudo-Polyhedra' (2011, co-authored with Jefri Marzal and Chun Che Fung), which examines geometric structures relevant to orthogonal polyhedra packing. Another key publication is 'Value Analysis of Cyber Security Based on Attack Types' (2016, with Mehrnaz Akbari Roumani, Chun Che Fung, and Shri Rai), presenting a framework for evaluating cybersecurity measures against various attack vectors. In 2017, Xie published 'Measures of Similarity in Memory-Based Collaborative Filtering' (with S.C. Stephen), advancing recommender system algorithms through improved similarity metrics. Additional contributions encompass 'Computing Visibility Subsets in an Orthogonal Polyhedron' (2015, with Jefri Marzal and Chun Che Fung) and 'The Use of Animal Sensor Data for Predicting Sheep Metabolisable Energy Intake Using Machine Learning' (with Thomas, Kok Wai Wong, and Shri Rai), applying sensor data and machine learning to agricultural monitoring.
Xie's research portfolio extends to natural language processing and neural networks, evidenced by supervision of the doctoral thesis 'Enhancing Natural Language Understanding Using Meaning Representation and Deep Learning' (Doctor of Philosophy, Murdoch University). He has also contributed to works such as 'Enhancing Semantic Word Representations by Embedding Deep Word Relationships' (2019, with A. Nugaliyadde and Kok Wai Wong) and presentations at the 2019 International Joint Conference on Neural Networks. With 29 publications listed on ResearchGate accumulating 209 citations, Xie's outputs demonstrate engagement in areas including cybersecurity, machine learning applications, collaborative filtering, and computational geometry. His affiliations include the School of Information Technology, previously noted as part of the School of Engineering and Information Technology.
