Professor Hong Shen serves as Professor of Information Technology in the School of Engineering and Technology at Central Queensland University, having joined the institution in November 2023. He earned his BSc (Hons) from Beijing University of Science and Technology, MSc from the University of Science and Technology of China, PhLic, and PhD from Abo Akademi University in Finland. His distinguished career includes prior roles as Professor under the “China National Endowed Expert” title at Sun Yat-sen University, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Adelaide, Australia, and Professor and Head of the Computer Networks Laboratory at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
Professor Shen's research focuses on parallel and distributed computing, network optimization, privacy and security, data mining, and machine learning. With more than 7,100 citations on Google Scholar, an h-index over 40, and i10-index exceeding 50, his work has had substantial impact in these areas. Notable publications include: “Interdependence Analysis on Heterogenous Data via Behavior Interior Dimensions” (Knowledge-Based Systems, 2023); “Efficient and Fair: Information-Agnostic Online Coflow Scheduling by Combining Limited Multiplexing with DRL” (IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management, 2023); “Online scheduling of coflows by attention-empowered scalable deep reinforcement learning” (Future Generation Computer Systems, 2023); “Deep Reinforcement Learning Enhanced Greedy Algorithm for Online Scheduling of Batched Tasks in Cloud HPC Systems” (IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, 2022); and “Improved Ensemble Classification for Evolving Data Streams” (IEEE Intelligent Systems, 2022). He has been awarded the Science and Technology Progress Award from the Ministry of Education of China, the Natural Sciences Award from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and multiple best/outstanding paper awards from international conferences. Additionally, he teaches courses such as Computer Networks, Operating Systems, Distributed Databases and Data Mining, Parallel and Distributed Computing, Network Science, Data Structures and Algorithms, Advanced Algorithms, and Wireless Communication and Mobile Computing.
