Hiroyuki Yoshida is a Professor in the Graduate School of Engineering at Chiba University. He earned his Doctor of Science degree from the University of Tokyo in 1995. His academic career includes positions as Research Associate and Assistant Professor at the Institute for Chemical Research, Kyoto University, from 1996 to 2015, a JST PRESTO researcher role from 2009 to 2013, and a visiting position at Laboratoire Aimé Cotton, CNRS, in 1995–1996. He joined Chiba University as Professor in the Graduate School of Integrated Science in 2015 and has held his current position in the Graduate School of Engineering since 2017.
Yoshida’s research centers on the electronic states of functional materials, including organic semiconductors and perovskites, with a focus on photoelectron spectroscopy and the development of low-energy inverse photoelectron spectroscopy (LEIPS), which he advanced in 2012 as a method for measuring previously inaccessible conduction bands. In 2022, he developed angle-resolved LEIPS, enabling the first direct measurements of conduction band dispersion in organic semiconductors. He has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, including the 2026 paper “A universal model for energy level alignment at interfaces of hole-collecting monolayers in p-i-n perovskite solar cells” in the Journal of Materials Chemistry A and the 2022 Nature Materials paper “Conduction band structure of high-mobility organic semiconductors and partially dressed polaron formation.” Yoshida received the 8th Outstanding Achievement Award from the Japan OLED Forum in 2015 and the 12th Best Paper Award from the Japan Society of Applied Physics, Molecular Electronics and Bioelectronics Division, in 2014. He is a member of the Japan Society of Applied Physics, the Japan Society for Molecular Science, the Chemical Society of Japan, and the Japan Society of Vacuum and Surface Science.
