A master at fostering understanding.
Helen Brett is the Library Collection Strategist (Development) in the Collection Strategy & Development section of the Digital and Collections division at the University of Otago Library in Dunedin, New Zealand. Her direct dial is +64 3 479 8914. She has progressed through senior roles within the library, previously serving as Client Services Manager.
In June 2019, as Library Client Services Manager, Helen Brett spoke about the installation of two new wayfinding kiosks in the University's Central Library. These kiosks were implemented to provide a unique solution based on student feedback indicating the library was difficult to navigate, given its over 2,000 study spaces. Brett explained that the kiosks support the visual location of library services and facilities and offer immediate online connections to them. They include virtual tours of the space and enable booking of group study rooms, which are a popular student-focused service. Eliminating barriers to access was a priority, and the library uses such digital technologies to complement its physical collections and signage. Helen Brett was listed among current staff in the University of Otago's 'He tangata' exhibition, which went digital in December 2019 to celebrate the institution's 150th anniversary. She has also been involved in staff events, such as the General Staff Day, and served as a contact point for library job applications.
