Hayley Ruf is a Lecturer in Nursing at the School of Nursing and Midwifery within the College of Health at Adelaide University. She belongs to the undergraduate teaching team and teaches into several courses in the Bachelor of Nursing program. As course coordinator for clinical subjects, she supports students in achieving their learning goals and collaborates closely with industry and clinical partners to facilitate effective clinical placements. Her taught courses include NURS 2040: Assessment, Diagnostics and Pharmacotherapeutics and NURS 3045: Nursing Context of Practice: Primary Health Care, both offered in 2024.
Hayley Ruf holds a Masters of Nursing (Emergency). Before entering academia, she gained eight years of clinical experience. She started in clinical research at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, focusing on pain and anaesthetics. After becoming a Registered Nurse, she worked in the Emergency Department and completed her masters degree. She was then seconded to the Royal Adelaide Hospital to help develop a new acute care area for post-operative patients at high risk of mortality. This experience led her to pursue nursing education and further research interests. Her research specializations include the daily burdens experienced by parents and families of children with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), as well as developing debriefing scripts for students to promote reflection in practice.
