Dr. Golam Sorwar serves as Senior Lecturer in Information Technology within the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Southern Cross University, where he also acts as Course Coordinator for the Master of Information Technology program. He earned his BSc from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), MSc from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and PhD from Monash University. Sorwar is recognized as a leading international researcher with an extensive track record in applying Information Communication Technology (ICT) to promote the sustainable health and wellbeing of senior citizens. His research emphasizes digital technologies to improve patient care and support healthcare training, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals. He is a member of Southern Cross University's Research Clusters: Catchments, Coasts and Communities. Sorwar's work carries substantial practical implications for community health through innovative digital solutions.
Sorwar has forged collaborations with institutions including Emporia State University in the USA, Guangxi University of Science and Technology in China, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Dhaka University in Bangladesh, alongside partners such as Feros Care, Northern NSW Local Health District, and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Government of Bangladesh. As Chief Investigator on university-funded projects, he has obtained grants from the Connectivity Innovation Network, the Commonwealth Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, and the Bangladesh government. A prominent figure in IT academia, Sorwar reviews articles for journals like Australian Health Review, Digital Health, and Frontiers in Digital Health; serves on editorial boards of international journals; participates as a technical committee member at national and international conferences; and has examined numerous PhD, Masters, and Honours theses. He holds memberships in the Australian Computer Society (ACS), IEEE, and Association for Information Systems (AIS). Notable publications include 'Understanding factors influencing the adoption of mHealth by the elderly: An extension of the UTAUT model' (Hoque and Sorwar, 2017, International Journal of Medical Informatics), 'A healthcare technology service acceptance (HTSA) model: an analysis of pre-acceptance' (Liu et al., 2023), and 'Smart home technology to support older people's quality of life: An integrative review' (Aggar et al., 2023), underscoring his impact in digital health, information systems, multimedia signal processing, and related technologies.
