About Girish
Girish Bahal is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the UWA Business School, University of Western Australia. He obtained his PhD in Economics and MPhil in Economics from the University of Cambridge, where he was a Cambridge-Nehru scholar. Prior to joining UWA in 2018, Bahal worked at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., and the National Council of Applied Economic Research in New Delhi. His research specializations encompass networks in economics, macroeconomics, and labor economics. Bahal has published in prominent journals such as the European Economic Review, Journal of Development Economics, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, and World Bank Economic Review. He serves as a reviewer for Oxford Economic Papers since 2017 and The B.E. Journal of Macroeconomics since 2015.

Bahal has received the Raymond Burton Award (2016), Cambridge Nehru Scholarship (2015), Suzy Paine Award (2014), Hughes Hall award (2013), and EM Burnett Prize (2011). He is Chief Investigator on the UWA project "The Origins of Supply Chain Risk: How Firms Select Suppliers" (2026–2026, with Chatterjee, Kumar, and Lenzo) and has been an investigator on "Religion and Covid-19" (University of Cambridge, 2020–2022) and "Social Identities and the Labour Market: What Can Household Surveys Reveal?" (Gates Foundation, 2019–2022, with Basole, Swaminathan, Lahoti, Abraham, Shrivastava, and Goel).
