About George

George Bogen, BS, DDS, is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Endodontics at the School of Dentistry, University of Queensland. Widely regarded as the father of modern clinical vital pulp therapy, he has advanced the field of endodontics through pioneering clinical research, highly cited publications, and innovative techniques such as the internationally recognized Bogen Dental Technique. His work emphasizes preserving vital pulp tissue and utilizing mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) for effective root canal treatments and pulp regeneration.

Bogen's distinguished career includes maintaining a private endodontic practice in Los Angeles from 1998 to 2018 and serving as Clinical Assistant Professor of Endodontics at the University of Southern California. He has lectured extensively for postgraduate programs at UCLA, Loma Linda University, Nova Southeastern University, and the VA Hospital in Long Beach. Since 2018, he has contributed to the University of Queensland as a Senior Lecturer, supervising student research projects, participating in School of Dentistry research days, and collaborating on studies involving MTA obturation, chelation effects, and residual dentin thickness analysis. Key publications include 'Direct pulp capping with mineral trioxide aggregate: an observational study' (2008, 634 citations), 'Mineral trioxide aggregate obturation: a review and case series' (2009, 456 citations), 'Multifaceted use of ProRoot MTA root canal repair material' (2001, 287 citations), 'Microorganisms in closed periapical lesions' (1998, 214 citations), and 'Pulp-dentin regeneration: current state and future prospects' (2015, 171 citations). These contributions have profoundly influenced clinical practices in vital pulp therapy and bioceramic materials worldwide.

In 2023, Bogen received the American Association of Endodontists (AAE) President's Award for his behind-the-scenes advancements in endodontics. He has held leadership roles as Past President of the Southern California Academy of Endodontists, secretary and trustee of the AAE Foundation, and member of the AAE Corporate Relations Committee. Currently, he serves on the Scientific Advisory Boards for the Journal of Endodontics and Decisions in Dentistry, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. His ongoing international lecturing and research supervision continue to shape endodontic education and practice.
