Georgann Jouflas is an Instructor of Business in the Davis School of Business at Colorado Mesa University, where she has been teaching since 1991. She holds a Bachelor of Science in International Affairs from the University of Colorado, which included intensive study of cultures and business practices in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, and a Master of Business Administration from George Washington University in 1983, emphasizing Management, Planning, and Control. Her entrepreneurial foundation stems from active involvement in her family's sheep ranching operation and real estate management business. During her MBA studies, she worked in the government liaison office of a major oil conglomerate, reporting on congressional and agency hearings. Afterward, she served as Product Manager for a Los Angeles software company that grew from a garage startup to the second-largest value-added IBM reseller in the area, managing product features, beta tests, technical support, and sales.
In the 1990s, Jouflas owned and operated a restaurant/bakery and a restaurant/nightclub in western Colorado, and served as CEO of a small food manufacturing company with products distributed by major chains in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Denver. Following the sale of her businesses in 1996, she worked at the Western Colorado Business Development Center, developing the Kitchen Incubator program for food entrepreneurs, leading the Small Business Development Center's 12-week Leading Edge Program on business operations and planning, and contributing to the Competitive Edge program for strategic planning and networking. She provides consulting on accounting software implementation for small businesses. At Colorado Mesa University, she advises The Point, an interdisciplinary student-run coffee shop and bar opened in 2013, and manages the Coleman Faculty Entrepreneurship Fellows program, assisting over 10 faculty fellows in infusing entrepreneurship across disciplines. Her research and consulting include the Listening to Business program, featuring biennial interviews with 100 business leaders to discern local economic trends, and membership on the Planning Oversight Committee of the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce, conducting monthly interviews to improve planning processes. Jouflas's expertise centers on entrepreneurship, accounting, and basic business skills. She has co-authored key publications, including 'Flexing the Leadership Muscle: An International Study of Entrepreneurial Resilience in Rural Communities during the COVID-19 Pandemic' (Journal of Small Business Strategy, 2021) and 'An Investigation on Factors Influencing University Students’ Entrepreneurship Orientations' (Entrepreneurship Education and Pedagogy, 2024).
