Fletcher Clarke serves as a Lecturer in Health and Physical Education within the School of Education, College of Education, Behavioural and Social Sciences at Adelaide University. He earned his Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Movement and Health Studies, Bachelor of Education (Middle/Secondary), and Master of Education from the University of South Australia. Clarke's professional journey in higher education began in 2014 as a Sessional Tutor at UniSA, where he advanced to Online Course Facilitator from 2018 to 2020, then Lecturer from 2020 to 2026, before transitioning to his current position at Adelaide University in 2026. He is responsible for leading the development and delivery of a range of courses tailored for students in the School of Education and Human Movement, with a strong emphasis on Health and Physical Education teacher education. Clarke is passionate about equipping pre-service teachers with essential employability skills through innovative teaching practices.
His research interests focus on digital education strategies and the readiness and employability of pre-service teachers, grounded in the conviction that educators must exemplify modern digital pedagogies to better prepare graduates for a digital society. Clarke teaches key courses such as Advanced Pedagogies in Health and Physical Education (EDUC 5141), Health and Physical Education for Secondary Teaching 1, 2, and 3 (EDUC 5167, 5168, 5169), Reflexive Practice and Professional Experience 1 (EDUC 5271), Fitness and Lifestyle Management (HLTH 1013), Principles of Teaching and Coaching (HLTH 1027), and Introduction to Physical Activity for Health (SPRC 1010). These courses support programs including the Master of Teaching (MMET), Bachelor of Primary Education (Honours) (LHPE), Bachelor of Human Movement (IBHT), and Diploma in Health (DDHE). In recognition of his outstanding contributions to teaching, he received the 2025 Teaching Award for Teacher of the Year (Mid Career) from the UniSA Education Futures Staff Excellence Awards and the 2018 Outstanding Student Evaluation Attainment Award for Postgraduate Teaching from the University of South Australia. Through his work, Clarke significantly influences the preparation of future educators adept in contemporary educational landscapes.
