Fernando Moreno Martinez is a Lecturer in Anaesthesia and Analgesia at the Murdoch Veterinary School, College of Veterinary Medicine, Murdoch University, Perth, Western Australia. He assumed this position in February 2022. Moreno Martinez completed his Master of Veterinary Anaesthesia at Murdoch University's School of Veterinary Medicine in 2022. His thesis, entitled 'Effects of endotracheal intubation on ventilation in horses,' examined the physiological effects of endotracheal intubation on ventilation distribution and mechanics in anesthetized horses using electrical impedance tomography. He holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) and a Master of Veterinary Clinical Studies (MVetClinStud). His academic career at Murdoch University is centered in the field of veterinary medicine, with a focus on anaesthesia within the School of Veterinary and Life Sciences.
Moreno Martinez's research specializations include veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia, respiratory mechanics, pain medicine, and anaesthesiology. He has authored and co-authored several key publications in peer-reviewed journals. These include 'Comparison of Effects of an Endotracheal Tube or Facemask on Breathing Pattern and Distribution of Ventilation in Anesthetized Horses' (Frontiers in Veterinary Science, 2022), where he is the lead author. He contributed to 'Thoracic Electrical Impedance Tomography—The 2022 Veterinary Consensus Statement' (Frontiers in Veterinary Science, 2022), a collaborative effort establishing consensus guidelines for thoracic electrical impedance tomography in veterinary applications. Additional publications are 'Controlled mechanical ventilation in equine anaesthesia: Physiological background and basic considerations (Part 1)' and 'Classification of ventilators and practical considerations (Part 2)' (Equine Veterinary Education, 2021). More recently, he co-authored 'Propofol and medetomidine intravenous anaesthesia for short procedures in guinea pigs' (Veterinary Record Case Reports, 2024). His work at The Animal Hospital at Murdoch University involves clinical anaesthesia, particularly for equine patients, and collaborations with researchers such as Anthea Raisis, David Byrne, and Martina Mosing. Moreno Martinez maintains an active profile on academic platforms including ORCID (0000-0003-4372-962X) and ResearchGate, with his publications cited in the veterinary anaesthesia community.
