Dr Felicity Walker is a Lecturer in Nursing within the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University. Her academic qualifications include a PhD and a Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) from RMIT University, as well as a Bachelor of Nursing from Queensland University of Technology. With a professional background in clinical trials nursing and acute care nursing, she transitioned into academia where she contributes to teaching and research, particularly at the Gold Coast and Lismore campuses.
Walker's research specializations encompass nursing workforce issues, leadership and management, work-integrated learning, supervision and delegation, clinical supervision of student nurses, nursing leadership, health technology, healthy ageing, and carers. She is a member of the Resilient Ageing in Supportive Environments research group and leads projects involving collaborations with industry and education providers on work-integrated learning, artificial intelligence in healthcare, social prescribing, nursing student supervision, and leadership. Key publications include 'Exploring clinical facilitation and student learning on nursing placements through a community of practice lens: A qualitative study' (2024, Collegian, with Whiteing and Aggar); 'An Exploration of the Impact of a Work Integrated Learning Program on the Transition Experience of First-Year Registered Nurses' (2024, Nursing Research and Practice, with Whiteing, Aggar, and Bowen); 'Nursing/midwifery students' perceptions of caring pedagogy and online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic' (2024, Journal of Advanced Nursing, with Jones et al.); 'Transparent teamwork: The practice of supervision and delegation within the multi-tiered nursing team' (2021, Nursing Inquiry); and 'Innovation in Australian nursing student work integrated learning during a pandemic' (2022, with Dean et al.).
