Faith Sidlow serves as Associate Professor of broadcast/multimedia journalism and Chair of the Department of Media, Communications and Journalism in the College of Arts and Humanities at California State University, Fresno. She holds a Master of Arts in Mass Communication and Journalism from California State University, Fresno, completed in May 2008, with a thesis titled "Consumption of news among various age groups: Traditional media versus new media," advised by Dr. Tamyra Pierce. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a broadcast emphasis and a minor in Political Science from San Diego State University in June 1985. Sidlow launched her broadcast journalism career in 1982 as a radio reporter and board operator at KPBS-FM in San Diego, served as San Diego reporter for KNX 1070 News Radio from 1983 to 1985, and interned as a researcher for CBS Television News in London. From 1985 to 2013, she worked at KSEE 24 News in Fresno in roles including assignment editor, producer, reporter, consumer reporter, and news anchor. She also taught at Fresno City College from 1989 to 1991 and 2008 to 2010.
Sidlow began teaching at Fresno State in 2009 while still in local news, becoming full-time faculty in 2015. She instructs courses such as MCJ 2 Media Writing, MCJ 102W Reporting, MCJ 121 News Video Production, MCJ 124 Intermediate Broadcast News Writing, MCJ 125 Radio Reporting and Podcasting, MCJ 126 Media Performance, MCJ 172 Media Law, and MCJ 199 Capstone Class in TV/Multimedia News Reporting and Production. She oversees production of the Fresno State Focus newscast on Comcast 94, CMAC.TV, fresnostatefocus.com, and Fresno State Focus Radio Edition on 90.7 KFSR. Her honors include induction into the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Silver Circle in 2012, a Golden Mike Award in 2015 for her Central Valley Honor Flight radio documentary on WWII and Korean War veterans, three Emmy nominations, Associated Press awards, Edward R. Murrow recognition for a news series, Best of the West, two Mark Twain awards, and a Silver Medallion from the California Bar Association. She has received Provost's Awards at Fresno State. Notable publications include her master's thesis, the co-authored book "Broadcast News in the Digital Age: A Guide to Reporting, Producing and Anchoring Online and on TV" with Kim Stephens (Routledge), and contributions to "Global Journalism Collaborations: Worldwide Storytelling Projects in Higher Education" (2024). Sidlow serves on the Fresno City College Journalism Advisory Board.
