Esin Turkaslan is an Associate Professor, Discipline Lead, and Programme Lead for the Physiotherapy Cluster encompassing BSc and MSc programmes within the College of Health and Society at Buckinghamshire New University. She holds the position of Course Leader for the BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy (Full Time), MSc Physician Associate Studies (Full Time), and MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-Registration) (Full Time) courses. Recognized as a Principal Fellow of Advance HE (PFHEA), Esin exemplifies leadership in higher education. Her extensive career includes over 18 years in the National Health Service (NHS) as a Consultant Physiotherapist and non-medical prescriber, where she led services in musculoskeletal (MSK), trauma, oncology, and palliative care. She maintains active professional memberships with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and is affiliated with the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP) and the Royal College of Physicians (RCP). Esin contributes significantly to national education policy through her roles as a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) peer reviewer, external examiner, and member of the UK Physician Associate Council Education and Research Groups.
Esin's research specializations centre on placements, workforce readiness, assessment strategies, and preparedness for clinical practice. Her ongoing projects investigate student transitions into primary care settings and the effects of standardised assessments on professional competence, including presentations such as 'Standardising OSCEs in Physician Associate Education: Enhancing Fairness, Reliability and Research-Informed Assessment' at the BNU Research Conference 2025. At Buckinghamshire New University, she drives strategic leadership in physiotherapy education, fostering programme innovation, workforce development, and interprofessional collaboration. A key contributor to the Primary Care Training Hub pilot project, this multidisciplinary initiative integrates General Practitioner (GP), Physiotherapy, Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP), and Physician Associate (PA) services with educational and research components to bolster the regional health workforce and enrich students' clinical learning experiences. Through these efforts, Esin enhances healthcare education and practice readiness.
