Professor Eric Oscar Amonsou is a Professor in the Department of Biotechnology and Food Technology within the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Durban University of Technology. He holds a PhD in Food Science from the University of Pretoria. His area of expertise is functional food biopolymers, with research activities focused on plant protein characterisation and modification for improved functionality and application in emulsion stabilisation and formation of hydrogels.
Professor Amonsou is a C2-rated NRF Scientist in South Africa and serves as the leader of the Food and Nutrition Security research focus area at Durban University of Technology. He was appointed as the NRF SARChI Tier 1 Research Chair in Sustainable Protein Innovation. He delivered his inaugural lecture in 2021, addressing topics in food and nutrition security. Professor Amonsou has received several awards, including recognition as a DUT Innovator of the Year, and has been nominated for NSTF South32 awards. His scholarly work in food chemistry and processing has garnered significant citations on academic platforms.
