About Emily
Emily Lancsar is an Adjunct Associate Professor (Research) in the Centre for Health Economics, Faculty of Business and Economics at Monash University, where she previously served as Director of Research. She joined Monash in 2011 after more than seven years at Newcastle University in the UK as a Senior Lecturer and Lecturer in the Department of Economics, during which she held an ESRC/MRC/NIHR Fellowship in the Economics of Health. Prior to that, Lancsar worked at the Centre for Health Economics Research and Evaluation (CHERE) at the University of Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney, as well as in the Federal Department of Health. She is a past Vice President of the Australian Health Economics Society.
Lancsar holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, a Master of Economics (MEc) from the University of Sydney, a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Economics and Evaluation from Monash University, a Bachelor of Economics (BEc) from the Australian National University, and a Bachelor of Arts. Her research interests centre on understanding and modelling the choice, preferences, and behaviour of key decision makers in the health sector, particularly in the context of priority setting for health technology assessment. She has produced 53 research outputs, including key publications such as "Behavioral responses to healthcare funding decisions and their impact on value for money: evidence from Australia" (Health Economics, 2025, with Ghijben et al.), "A Reporting Checklist for Discrete Choice Experiments in Health: The DIRECT Checklist" (PharmacoEconomics, 2024, with Ride et al.), "Menu choice stated preference tasks to capture demand complementarity in health" (Social Science & Medicine, 2024, with Huynh et al.), and "Systematic review of the relative social value of child and adult health" (PharmacoEconomics, 2024, with Peasgood et al.). Lancsar has been awarded an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (ARC DECRA). She serves as a member of the Economic Sub-Committee of the Australian Medical Services Advisory Committee and the Social Science and Economic Advisory Group of Food Standards Australia New Zealand.
