About Eddie

Eddie Anderson is Emeritus Professor of Decision Sciences at the University of Sydney Business School. He holds an honours degree in Mathematics and a PhD in Operations Management from the University of Cambridge. Prior to joining the University of Sydney in 2008, he served as Professor at the Australian Graduate School of Management, UNSW Sydney from 1996 to 2008, during which time he was Associate Dean Research at AGSM (2002-2004), Acting Dean of AGSM (2006), and Postgraduate Associate Dean for the Faculty of Business (2006-2008). At the University of Sydney, Anderson was Chair of the Discipline of Business Analytics from 2008 to 2013, as well as Associate Dean (Research) and Associate Dean (Research Education) at the Business School. He began his research career studying scheduling theory and the modelling of optimization problems. He currently holds a faculty position at Imperial College Business School in London.

Anderson's academic interests encompass optimization, game theory, scheduling theory, supply chain management with emphasis on contracts and risk, and applications to energy markets, alongside risk management. He has published 78 papers in international academic journals, garnering over 5,800 career citations and an h-index of 39 according to Google Scholar. Selected key publications include "Using supply functions for offering generation into an electricity market" with A.B. Philpott (Operations Research, 2002), "Genetic algorithms for combinatorial optimization: the assembly line balancing problem" with M.C. Ferris (ORSA Journal on Computing, 1994), "Ranking Games and Gambling: When to Quit When You're Ahead" (Operations Research, 2012), and "Competitive contract design in a retail supply chain under demand uncertainty" (Networks, 2023). In 2014, he authored the advanced textbook "Business Risk Management: Models and Analysis" published by Wiley. Anderson served as Area Editor for Energy at the journal Operations Research from 2012 to 2017 and has successfully supervised 14 PhD students. His contributions have advanced decision-making models in operations and energy sectors.
