About Durga Prasad

Durga Prasad M is a Professor of Accounting and Finance at T A Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), Manipal, where he holds the positions of Incharge Director and Dean – Administration. With 27 years of experience in teaching and administration, he earned his M.Com. and Ph.D. in Corporate Finance. His research specializations encompass Corporate Finance, Business Valuation, Corporate Governance, Sustainable Finance, Corporate Restructuring, and Mergers and Acquisitions. He teaches Financial Accounting, Corporate Finance, Financial Derivatives, and Business Valuation, and conducts training programs for executives and academicians. An active case publisher, his works appear in top clearing houses including Ivey Publishing, Emerald, The Case Center, and The Case Journal.

Prof. Durga Prasad M has received the Jonathan Welch Best Case in Finance award at the North American Case Research Association (NACRA) conference in 2014 in Austin, USA, a prestigious honor for outstanding cases in accounting, finance, or economics. His case “Wockhardt Limited: Will it Rise from the Ashes?” ranked among the top 10 in the ISB-Ivey Global Case Competition 2016. He also earned a Certificate of Merit at the All India Management Association's 2nd Case Writing Competition & Conference in 2022. Key publications include peer-reviewed articles such as “Corporate restructuring at Tata Steel Ltd” (The CASE Journal, 2024, with V. SR), “Allocation to Anchor Investors, Underpricing, and the After-Market Performance of IPOs” (Financial Management, 2019, with R. Seth and S.R. Vishwanatha), and “Can Catering to Local Area Needs Through CSR Reduce Firm Risk?” (Journal of Public Affairs, 2024, with K. Prasad). Notable teaching cases feature “Larsen & Toubro’s hostile takeover of Mindtree” (The Case Center), “Cost of Doing Good: The Dilemma of Investing in Green Bonds” (Ivey Publishing, with Krishna Prasad and Aryan Ayyar), and “An investment decision dilemma” (Emerald Emerging Markets Case Studies, 2016). Since joining TAPMI in 2012, he has served in administrative roles including Chairperson – Quality Cell, Chairperson – Alumni Relations, and Associate Dean (Administration), focusing on institution-building.
