Dũng Trần is an Honorary Associate Professor in the Macquarie School of Education at Macquarie University. He previously served as a senior lecturer in mathematics and STEM education within the same school. Dr. Trần's research focuses on designing and implementing curricular materials to improve students' mathematical literacy and their abilities to use mathematics and statistics functionally and critically in home, civic, and work life. His work involves analyzing and developing curriculum at middle and high school levels, conducting clinical interviews with elementary children, and investigating quantitative and qualitative data. Additionally, he empowers mathematics and STEM teachers to integrate real-life problem solving, equity, and social justice in numeracy education. Dr. Trần emphasizes improving teacher knowledge, including subject matter knowledge and research-informed, student-oriented pedagogical strategies.
Dr. Trần obtained his PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Missouri on June 30, 2013, along with a PhD minor in Statistics from the same institution. He has produced 39 research outputs, including 17 journal articles, 15 conference proceeding contributions, two chapters, and one commissioned report. Key publications include 'Pre-service teachers’ feedback on their peers’ lesson plans' with M. Cavanagh (Asia-Pacific Journal of Teacher Education, 2025); 'High school mathematics teachers' changes in beliefs and knowledge during lesson study' with D.T.
