Dmytro Matsypura is an Associate Professor and Head of the Discipline of Business Analytics at the University of Sydney Business School. He earned his PhD in Management Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2006 and a Master's degree in Information Systems in 2000. His research focuses on operations research and management science, encompassing mathematical programming, integer programming, combinatorial optimization, heuristics, linear programming, modeling, algorithms, simulation, operations management, and network science. Applications of his work include wildfire fuel management, optimal selection of expert forecasts, assortment optimization, and centrality measures in graphs.
Matsypura's scholarly output includes publications in leading journals such as the European Journal of Operational Research, Omega, and others. Key papers are 'Finding the most degree-central walks and paths in a graph: Exact and heuristic approaches' (2023), 'Centrality of shortest paths: algorithms and complexity results' (2025), 'Optimal selection of expert forecasts with integer programming' (2018, Omega), 'Wildfire fuel management: Network-based models and optimization of prescribed burning' (2017), 'Assortment Optimisation Problem: A Distribution-Free Approach' (2019), 'On exact solution approaches for the longest induced path problem' (2019), and 'Estimation of Hierarchical Archimedean Copulas as a Shortest Path Problem' (2016). His work has received over 1,193 citations on Google Scholar. For his contributions to environmental sustainability, he co-authored the winner of the INFORMS ENRE Best Publication Award in Environment and Sustainability. In teaching, he has been recognized with the Discipline of Business Analytics Teaching Excellence Awards, including in 2008 and 2013, and the Wayne Lonergan Outstanding Teaching Award (Early Career) from the University of Sydney Business School in 2010. Matsypura holds professional service roles, such as co-opted member of SIGMAOPT, and delivers seminars on optimization topics like centrality of shortest paths.
