Dinithi Dissanayake is a Lecturer in Auditing in the School of Accounting and Finance at Adelaide University, within the College of Business and Law. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) and a PhD in Accounting. Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including Auditing and Assurance Services, Accounting for Business, Accounting for Management, Auditing Principles, Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Sustainability Accounting and Reporting, and Business Finance. Before joining Adelaide University, she taught Auditing and Financial Accounting at UniSA Business and worked as an Online Course Facilitator at UniSA Online, leading the development and delivery of online courses, collaborating with academic and divisional teams for high-quality learning experiences, and coordinating online tutoring staff. She also held tutoring and research assistant positions at Flinders University and UniSA’s School of Commerce.
Dissanayake's research focuses on sustainability accounting and reporting, blockchain, and online education. Her scholarship has been published in leading journals, including Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, Meditari Accountancy Research, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Cleaner Production, Qualitative Research in Accounting and Management, and Sustainability Accounting, Management and Policy Journal. Key publications include 'How can NGO accountability practices be improved with technologies such as blockchain and triple-entry accounting?' (Kuruppu, Dissanayake & de Villiers, 2022, Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal); 'A (new) role for business - Promoting the United Nations' sustainable development goals through the internet-of-things and blockchain technology' (de Villiers, Kuruppu & Dissanayake, 2021, Journal of Business Research); 'Sustainability reporting by publicly listed companies in Sri Lanka' (Dissanayake, Tilt & Xydias Lobo, 2016, Journal of Cleaner Production); 'Barriers for sustainability reporting: evidence from Indo-Pacific region' (Dissanayake et al., 2021, Meditari Accountancy Research); and 'The state of business sustainability reporting in sub-Saharan Africa: an agenda for policy and practice' (Tilt et al., 2021, Sustainability Accounting, Management and Policy Journal). She received the Early Career Researcher Award at the UniSA Business Staff Excellence Awards in 2022 and is eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students as co-supervisor.
