About Dinesh

Professor Dinesh Kumar is a leading scholar in Business & Economics, holding the position of Professor of Decision Sciences and Information Systems at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). He earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. In his current leadership roles, he serves as Director In-Charge of IIMB since July 2025, Dean Faculty, Chairperson of the Data Centre and Analytics Lab (DCAL), and Chairperson of the MBA (Business Analytics) program. Previously, he has been Chairperson of the Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management since July 2006.

His academic interests and research specializations include Business Analytics and Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning Algorithms, Stochastic Modeling, Supply Chain Management, and Operations Research. Professor Kumar has authored influential works such as the book "Reliability, Maintenance and Logistic Support: A Life Cycle Approach" (2000, Springer), "Six Sigma Project Selection Using Data Envelopment Analysis" (2007, The TQM Magazine), "On the Optimal Selection of Process Alternatives in a Six Sigma Implementation" (2008, International Journal of Production Economics), "Spares Provisioning under Performance-Based Logistics Contract: Profit-Centric Approach" (2008, Journal of the Operational Research Society), and "Age-Related Maintenance versus Reliability Centred Maintenance: A Case Study on Aero-Engines" (2000, Reliability Engineering & System Safety). His publications have accumulated over 2,490 citations on Google Scholar. Recognized among India's top ten analytics leaders, he received the Distinguished Professor Award from AIM. He contributes to public education through edX courses and lectures on data science applications in customer analytics, HR analytics, marketing analytics, e-commerce, finance, and hospitality.
