Dean Fraser completed a Master of Indigenous (Political) Studies at the University of Otago from 1999 to 2002. Of Ngāi Tahu descent, nominated by Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu, he is the Chairperson of the Otago Conservation Board with an appointment term from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2027. He possesses skills in strategic direction, operational delivery, and risk management. His career includes roles such as General Manager of Transformation at Ngāi Tahu Holdings, positions at Ngāi Tahu Development Corporation, and Chair of Ōtākou Papatipu Rūnaka. Previously at Silver Fern Farms, he was General Manager, Operations Manager, Processing Manager, and Shift Manager. Dean Fraser has collaborated with local iwi on conservation projects in Dunedin and participated in the University of Otago's Science Wananga Programme.
