David VanHorn serves as Professor in the Practice of Operations Management in the Business & Economics area at Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business, where he has taught since 2007. He holds an M.B.A. from the Jones Graduate School (2000) and a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering (1989) and M.S. in Aerospace Engineering (1990) from Iowa State University, where he was a Honeywell Engineering/Business Fellowship recipient. With over 20 years of experience in strategy, business development, operations, manufacturing, supply chain management, services management, and engineering/product development across industries such as aerospace & defense, oil field equipment, high-tech, heavy industrial equipment, consumer products, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals, VanHorn is currently Managing Partner at Angel Rock Management Advisors (2012–present). Previous positions include Principal at Booz & Company (2010–2012), Partner at Archstone Consulting (2005–2010), Senior Manager at Deloitte Consulting (2000–2005), and Principal Engineer at The Boeing Company (1990–1999), including work on NASA’s Space Station and Shuttle/Mir programs.

VanHorn created and leads the second-year Capstone course for Professional and Executive MBA programs, partnering with over 125 Houston-area non-profits in education, childhood development, healthcare, social services, environment, and arts to deliver strategic recommendations to over 1,100 students. He designed a two-course elective series on Operations and Supply Chain Management covering strategy, planning, supply management, logistics, service operations, and new product development, and redesigned the core Action Learning Project course. A Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt, his expertise includes operations strategy, global supply chain design, sourcing, procurement, demand planning, production, logistics, and product lifecycle management. Leadership roles encompass two-term President of the Jones Graduate School Alumni Association (2005–2007), Chairman of the Iowa State University Alumni Association Board (2013–2014), and Chairman of Generation One (2014–present). Awards include the 2007 Rice University Builders Award for Outstanding Young Alumni Service, 2009 Jones Graduate School Alumni Association Service Award, and finalist for the 2012 MBA Roundtable Innovator’s Award.
